The AKU Alumni Discussion Board provides a unique platform where AKU alumni from all over the world can interact with each other in real time. Powered by one of the most innovative and modern board software available, it provides the alumni with a private space where they can discuss issues of common interest such as the USMLE / Board Exams, various aspects of the US residency, visa issues and accommodation. Keeping in view the very diverse array of interests of our alumni, forums for several non-academic categories are available as well, such as the Doctor’s Lounge, Literature, Sports and a Technology Corner. Members of the board would be able to keep abreast with all updates and developments of AKUAANA, as well as access a directory of AKU Alumni, documents such as the “Road to Residency” and AKU-NAMA publications, previous AKU Match Lists and much more.
The board is all about communicating and interacting. Primarily built for discussions, its powerful and intuitive editor facilitates full-fledged discussions by providing tools for quoting text, image uploading, video embedding, document embedding (e.g. Google Documents, Spreadsheets, PDFs) and creating polls for voting, all right within a discussion thread. Apart from that, members can have personal conversations off-the-board, with two or more members being part of the same conversation.
Keeping in line with modern web standards, the AKU Discussion Board has a robust Alert System that provides you with live notifications about updates to on-going discussions, in addition to email notifications for the same should you chose so. The Recent Activity Stream allows you to easily see all recent activity on the board, beyond just the messages posted. Members can follow each other to get their own personalized news feed showing the content that they want to see. The board is loaded with social features such as the popular Like feature and the ability to tweet and share links with your friends. A Facebook App has been specifically coded and integrated with the system, allowing members to associate their board account with their Facebook account. Once associated, members can log in to the board with their Facebook login credentials, with a single click on the “Log in with Facebook” button.
I welcome everyone aboard and look forward to your participation as well as your feedback and suggestions. I am confident that the board will complement and enrich your experience with the new AKUAANA website and would help you to socially engage, interact and communicate with each other, no matter where you are.
Warm regards,
Abdul Basit Saeed, ’07
